ABMs - Abbreviation for Automated Bid Managers.

Above The Fold - The section of a Web page that is visible without scrolling. (see also: ATF)

Absolute Link - A hyperlink that includes the complete URL, which is the domain name, folder or subdirectory name and file name.

Accessibility - An access to the Web Site/Web Page by everyone, regardless of disability whether it is physical, visual, hearing, and cognitive or neurological disabilities. An accessible Web site allows all users to access it, regardless of their browser, resolution, settings, or eyesight. Not only does accessible mean allowing the Web to be used by people with disabilities, but also allowing Web pages to be understood by people using browsers other than the usual ones - including voice browsers that read Web pages aloud to people with sight impairments, Braille browsers that translate text into Braille, hand-held browsers with very little monitor space, teletext displays, and other unusual output devices.

ACSS - Abbreviation for Aural Cascading Style Sheets

Ad Blocking - The blocking of Web advertisements, typically the image in graphical Web advertisements.

Ad Pimp - A website that has too many ads on it in an obvious attempt to monetize the site.

Ad Space - The space on a Web Page available for advertisements.

AdBrite - "The Internet's Ad Marketplace", web site for buying and selling advertising space on individual web sites.

Add URL - A metod to submit web site/web page to Search Engines and Web Directories.

Added Value Affiliates - Provide a value-added service to visitors in addition to affiliate links and affiliate content.

AdSense Link Clicking Bot - Automated programs that try to spoof random IP addresses to click through AdWords displayed on a site.

Advertising Network - A network representing many Web sites in selling advertising, allowing advertising buyers to reach broad audiences relatively easily through run-of-category and run-of-network buys.

Adwords - Google's Cost Per Click (see also: CPC) based advertising system.

AERT - Abbreviation for Techniques for Accessibility and Evaluation and Repair Tools

Affiliate - The publisher/salesperson in an affiliate marketing relationship.

Affiliate Directory - A categorized listing of affiliate programs.

Affiliate Forum - An online community where visitors may read and post topics related to affiliate marketing.

Affiliate Fraud - Bogus activity generated by an affiliate in an attempt to generate illegitimate, unearned revenue.

Affiliate Marketing - Revenue sharing between online advertisers/merchants and online publishers/salespeople, whereby compensation is based on performance measures, typically in the form of sales, clicks, registrations, or a hybrid model.

Affiliate Merchant - The advertiser in an affiliate marketing relationship.

Affiliate Network - A value-added intermediary providing services, including aggregation, for affiliate merchants and affiliates.

Affiliate Software - Software that, at a minimum, provides tracking and reporting of commission-triggering actions sales, registrations, or clicks from affiliate links.

Agent Name - An agent name is the name of the software accessing a web page.

Aggregator - Software that lets you automatically download content to your computer.

AIDA - Abbreviation for Attention, Interest, Desire, Action. A term used to describe a formula to increase conversions.

AJ - Abbreviation for "Ask Jeeves" - a search engine, now renamed to Ask

Alexa - The Amazon.com subsidiary, which provides traffic statistics on the sites in it's index.

Alexa Toolbar - The toolbar offers the unique ability to update in real-time to offer you information about the sites you visit.

Algorithm - A sort of mathematical formula used by Search Engines to determine the relevance and the value of a page and rank them accordingly in their search results in response to a particular query. Search engines algorithms change frequently and algorithms differ from engine to engine. No search engine reveals exactly how its own algorithm works, to protect itself from competitors and those who wish to SPAM the Search Engine index.

Algorithmic Results - Results that have not been paid for. These are results which the search engine has determined are worthy of inclusion without a Pay Per Click plan.

AllTheWeb - Search tool owned by Yahoo and using it's database, but presenting results differently.

ALT Tag - HTML tag used to describe the content associated with a non-text based file, typically an image.

ALT Text - HTML attribute that provides alternative text for images. Search Engine spiders or robots can read ALT Text but not the images. The ALT Text appears when you put your mouse on top of an image or a picture.

AltaVista - Search Engine, one of the oldest Search Engines on WWW

Anchor Text - Usually clickable text element representing a hyperlink. Anchor Text helps search engines know what text linking to and uses it to rank the target site. Good place to use keywords and key phrases. Also known as Link Text, the Clickable Text of a Hyperlink.

Animated GIF - A graphic in the GIF89a file format that creates the effect of animation by rotating through a series of static images. Often used for animated banners.

Anonymous FTP - An option in FTP that allows users to download files without having to establish and account.

AOL - Abbreviation for America Online.

Apache - An open source web server software.

API - Abbreviation for Application Programming Interface

Application Service Provider - provider of applications/services that are distributed through a network to many customers. (see also ASP)

Article PR - The submitting of free reprint articles to Article Directories and Article Distribution lists in order to increase website's Search Engine ranking and Google PageRank.

Article Submission Sites - Websites which act as repositories of free reprint articles. There authors can submit their articles free of charge, and where visitors can find articles to use free of charge.

ASCII - Abbreviation for American Standard Code for Information Interchange

Ask Jeeves - Metasearch Engine (see also: AJ)

ASP - Two meanings: Microsoft Active Server Pages or Application Service Provider

Microsoft Active Server Pages - Type of dynamically generated pages. Usualy file extention ".asp" (see also ASP)

ASP Hosting - Web hosting that supports Active Server Pages, a server-side scripting environment from Microsoft.

ASPX - Abbreviation for Microsoft Active Server Page Framework

Astroturfing - The practice of faking, pushing or help to mold a "grass roots" movement.

ATF - Abbreviation for Above the Fold. This is the part of the user's screen that is always displayed without scrolling.

ATW - Abbreviation for AllTheWeb, a search engine.

AUD - 3 Letter Currency Code for Australia Dollars

Audioblog - An audio web log in MP3 format and available for download to an MP3 player or a computer.

Authority Site - A site that has many In-Bound links coming to it, and very little outbound links.

Autoresponder - A program that sends an automatic form response to incoming emails.

AV - Abbreviation for AltaVista search engine.
